Todo List

I have a few items on my running "todo" list.  Here is a sample

  1. Run a marathon - done
  2. Run an ultramarathon - coming in July
  3. Run an ultra-relay (specifically Wild West)
  4. Run the Superior Hiking Trail

There are probably more but those are the specifics I can think of right now.  My 50K race is coming up on July 1st.

The Wild West Relay takes place in August every year (centering around the full moon in August).  It takes place in beautiful Colorado but at some lung burning altitudes.  195 miles of mountain running.  There is a division for 6 person  ultra teams with each person running 6 legs and around 32 miles total.  2006 is out, but if I can 5 other crazy people, maybe it will be a something to tackle in 2007 or 2008.

The Superior Hiking Trail runs along the coast of Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota.  I have hiked a small section of it before.  It is beautiful.  The "North Shore" area of Minnesota is gorgeous.  The best thing going for the state if you like the outdoors (okay there is also the Boundary Waters area).  It is considered one of the best hiking trails in the country, and Backpacker         Magazine named the Superior Hiking Trail the trail with the         "Best  Trail/Camp/Shelter conditions", the trail with the         "Best Signage"  in the country and one of the most scenic         trails in the nation (12/2000).

The entire trail is 205 miles long.  I particularly like the last 5 sections which equal 135.1 miles, starting in Beaver Bay and ending near the Canadian Border.  They even have a shuttle service in case you want to do a one-way "hike".  So that is cool.  Being that I am at least partially high maintenance, I like the concept of running lodge to lodge and not camping.  Don't get me wrong - I love camping.  But this would be a 5 day run (26ish miles each day), and I'm not sure I'd want to run with a tent, food, etc.  Dropping gear at lodges along the way would be a good thing :)  Well some day.  Again, not this year, but maybe in the next couple of years.   If I can't find anyone else crazy enough to run a marathon a day for 5 days straight then maybe I can get people to join me for sections of the run.  Either way - I'm going to do it.  It's just a matter of when!

Hmm... it's supposed to rain a lot today and through the night.  My trail run in the morning should be interesting.  Definitely some mud - maybe some "creeks" to cross.  Hopefully not too much mud since that makes running harder - but I'm looking forward to it!!

Well, according to Johnny, you've got two people for the Wild West relay :) He just has to convince his mom to watch Ash. But Johnny is very interested in it. It'd be fun!

I also LOVE the sound of the Superior Hiking Trail! It reminds me of the trails I loved to hike back in the Adriondacks in upstate New York (where Johnny grew up). So you've got two crazy people interested in your upcpoming runs! :)

You are one intense trail girl. Love your Todo List. And the Superior Hiking Trail sounds outstanding. Not at all crazy. Hard. Brutal. Fun.

So we can do one in 2007 and one in 2008 :)
I think they both sound like a lot of fun!!
And heck if someone can run 100 or 135 miles in one day - then I don't think doing the same in 5 is too much to ask ;)
