I talked to Nike and got some time off. I really need to be resting my foot and more than a couple hours a day on it is a bad deal. I didn't have to work Tuesday night. They are trying to find someone for my shift on Friday and next week I won't be on the schedule at all. However, this Thursday (today) is the launch of the new Nike+ system that most of you have heard about. Since I am one of the new experts and that is the launch day I agreed to work 6:30-8:30PM tonight.
I'm pretty excited for it actually. I'm very curious to see what the reaction is. Some facts for all of you if you are curious:
- There are about 4 or 5 pairs of shoes that are currently Nike+ capable. More are on the way, including stability shoes and probably (let's hope) trail shoes.
- The Nike+ sensor only weights 6.5 grams
- This only works with the iPod Nano because the iPod Nano has no moving parts and makes for a more stable device to run with (regular ipods have a hard drive which can get messed up from running)
- If you cut a hole in your non-Nike shoe and insert the sensor it's only about 50% accurate. Nike wear tested it this way. however, I know some of you all may try this. If you do I'd be curious to hear your results :)
- The sensor is 92% accurate out of the box and 98% after it's calibrated for each person
I'm sure there is more. If you have questions feel free to ask me. I guess I'm an "expert" now :)
In other news.. Tavi and I schedule a long trip to Thailand yesterday for Feb/Mar of 2007. We
leave on Feb 8 - 4 days after the trail marathon :) We went out to a place called Opah last night to "celebrate". Wow that food was amazing! I had an herb crusted Halibut that just melted in my mouth. The firecracker shrimp appetizer was not bad either - and the chocolate souflee dessert? Please! That along with 3 fine glasses of wine and I slept pretty darn good last night. Tavi left home around 9:30 or so to go meet up with Ryan who had just come in from LAX. I was long gone into sleepy land by the time they got back so I guess I'll get to meet him tonight after Nike!
Happy Running,
Jessica
wow! Thailand. That should be very very cool. I've never been there but have a friend who often flies there because of family. Let me know if you want me to ask him any questions.
I've never been much into listening to music on my runs. I mostly listen to my ipod in the car. However, my boyfriend has a nano. That guy has gotten all 5 (yes 5) of his for free. He works at Apple. The perks can be very nice. I might have to try these shoes when they come out in trail if Chris lets me borrow his toy. He can be very stingy with his things. :p

Thanks for all of the info on the nike+ system. You are quite the expert. It's a bummer that your foot is still hurting so much - but it sounds like you're able to find lots of other fun stuff to occupy your time. Thailand? Wow! Have you scoped out some recovery runs to do while you're there?

What a coincidence -- we went out to dinner in La Jolla and I too had a sumptious herb-crusted halibut. Thailand seems to be an "in" place right now. And having been a race director, I know after the trail marathon, you'll need a nice vacation far, far away!

I really REALLY want one of these. I just have not found a pair Nike shoes that work with my body! Is there a software program that comes with the package? I like plugging Garmina into the computer to see my results - but she doesn't work with my mac.

I really like the ipod shuffle for running. I suppose, because it weighs less than ?? grams. It's very lightweight and small.
I think the marriage between ipod/nike is a good one. I too will watch for reaction. I'd love to try it!
