My Morning Run(s)
I woke up late but decided to go for a morning run anyway. I was planning on going into work later and staying later already so not a big deal. I always need to "wait" around home a bit before I go run to make sure I go to the bathroom so I don't get the runs on my run. Well maybe not the runs, but I think you get my drift.
I ran pretty much the same loop as my Sunday run but in the opposite direction. At about 2 miles I decided to head back and finish my loop which would be about 3.5ish or so. I was feeling really good. Running 10 minute miles and lots of energy. But then it hit me. I needed to go to the bathroom. I wasn't sure I'd be able to find a secluded enough place on this wide open trail so my decision was to start running back. I was going to make it. I'll leave out the details but thank God for giant leaves and a big sheltered tree to hide behind.
The rest of my run went well but I never quite got my rhythm back. I finished my 3.5 miles averages 11 minute miles. The walking I had done to find the tree sure didn't help my pace either. Ahhh.. life on the trails...
Toward the end of my run I did see a couple deer in the deer park near my house. It's not really a deer park, but I think I'll start calling it that because almost every time I run here I see deer. Definitely see them more often than I don't. They must be getting more used to being around people becuase they just stood there as I approached - staring at me. Not moving a muscle as if I wouldn't see them. I passed within about 30 feet of the closest one who still didn't budge. Usually they go running off but apparently these were the brave ones. It was pretty awesome to run so close to them.
It's 4 days and 21 hours to the start of Twin Peaks. I'm feeling like things are coming together and most of the stuff remaining is little "details". Thursday night I'm going to pick up some last minute needs. Friday morning I pick up Angie from the airport and we'll take the scenic drive home along the beach/Pacific Coast Highway. Hopefully then we can go for a run. After we go out for dinner a group of people are coming over to my house for goodie bag stuffing and food prep. Saturday morning at 7AM we are off to go mark the course and will hopefully be done by 1PM (or sooner!) If we have the energy after that, Dean Karanzes will be at Fleet Feet in Laguna Niguel. Otherwise its rest and relaxation until dinner time. 6PM-8PM is the carb-load pre-race dinner. Then we need to leave the house Sunday morning at 4:30AM to bring stuff to the starting line. Sunday will be a LONG day. Monday hopefully Angie and I can go for a run especially if we don't get one in on Friday (or both days!). Other than that we'll probably go to the beach, hang out. Something low key after a long weekend. Of course all that can change as plans certainly shift beyond our control at times!
Should be a sometimes stressful but very fun weekend and I'm looking forward to all of it - especially race day!
Dirty Feet,
Jessica
